Twenty years after the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), progress in the fight against corruption remains limited. The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released by Transparency International reveals that over two-thirds of countries score below 50 out of 100, which strongly indicates serious corruption problems. Countries ranking high on the CPI are still not doing enough to tackle transnational corruption. They must eliminate financial secrecy loopholes; regulate and better supervise professionals such as accountants, real estate agents and lawyers; and hold perpetrators of transnational corruption and their enablers accountable.
