Governance is high on the agenda in all sectors – public, private and voluntary. It is of crucial importance for the grassroots sport sector to drive towards better governance. Good Governance in grassroots sport is a prerequisite for organisational legitimacy, autonomy and ultimately survival. Indeed if grassroots sport, with its most significant financial contributions stemming from individual members and public authorities, does not govern in an appropriate and legitimate way, it will not only lose reputation-wise, but also in terms of its continued support when it comes to membership and public financial support.
