Swiss Plan for Stronger AML Regulator Faces Uphill Battle

moneylaundering.com,  23.03.2026 – Switzerland’s Federal Council has outlined plans to give the Financial Market Supervisory Authority power to penalize companies for breaching anti-money laundering regulations. Roméa Alonso, a research associate at Transparency International’s chapter in Bern, warned that the proposal faces strong opposition and ultimate dilution. „Given the positions previously expressed by the parties directly affected, we can expect debates over the necessity and proportionality of such a reform,“Alonso said. „The competitiveness of the Swiss financial center is a recurring concern among financial stakeholders and some members of Parliament.“
